@nicknamed.bree: Anxious attachment style? You might need to hear this… OF COURSE, per usual, this won’t apply to everyone. I hope folks of all attachment styles slept well after waging a war in my comments section yesterday. #avoidant #attachment
The attachment theory subreddit is basically the anxious attachment self victimization sub where they all pat each other on the back and say they did nothing wrong 😭😭

falling in love with a great person who is avoidant has been SO HEALING for me. my partner was always good to me and respectful. once I chose to work on myself instead of focusing on what I felt entitled to and wasn't receiving, our relationship improved and my mental health improved.

I had an ex who would insist I was keeping secrets and withholding my true feelings and would tell me how hurt they were I wouldn't open up to them and the whole time I was just mystified what they wanted me to say? Like I genuinely didn't know what they wanted me to confess and it made me feel like they were bored with who I actually was. Eventually I told them we shouldn't be together if they thought I was always lying and they told everyone I dumped them out of nowhere.

This! Even if a caved and immediately talked it out with my anxious ex, they wouldn’t believe me! It was so frustrating 🤦♀️I just had to sit there and be hammered by her emotions until she got enough out. I felt like I had to stop my whole life just to make her feel safe.

I look back on my anxious self and cringe soooo bad. Nothing will snap you out of it like being on the receiving end and feeling how stifling and draining it is

The wonderful feeling of relief when you no longer try to micromanage every aspect of every feeling in the relationship as a protection mechanism is so freeing. I finally got so sick of the utter worry & stress of everything I had to force myself to just stop caring so much & literally just focus on doing what makes me happy.

Anxious usually means you lack self love and boundaries. Work on yourself and I promise avoidant attached people won't even be attractive anymore. It literally repels you. lol. This is from a Anxious healing from the BS an avoidant subjected me too. I let it happen, so im not playing victim anymore. Now, I will just cut access left and right. Threaten my peace? you gotta go🤷🏾♀️

I actually really thrive with people who have a little bit of anxiety, because I just find them so much better at actually connecting and also repairing my perfect person is 90% secure 10% anxious 😂😂😂those are my people 😂😂😂🤍- I think we all just thrive with different people and it would be so boring if we were all the same 🤍🤍also your comments section yesterday 😳😳😳😳😳do you need a hug? 😂😂😂🫂🤍

open to considering this IF... you can tell me when is the time to communicate? like when is that point? because i could hold things in and journal and regulate internally and still need a conversation but with a lot of avoidants it's either the wrong time or they, well, avoid it like the plague so is it just wait on them to be ready or never discuss it? this is a genuine question in case it came off as insincere!

I noticed I became an avoidant from the sheer overwhelm of anxiously attached exes. Everything was so so so overwhelming with them. Constantly placating to their needs, my location always being in question and everything being the worst possible thing in the entire world that could ever happen every single time. I grew up with a SEVERE helicopter mom, I COULD NOT STAND my whereabouts and intentions constantly being demonized due to someone’s anxieties and used against me when each and every time I just wanted to show love. I got sick of it, I had enough of that from my mom. I don’t want to accept that as an adult. I’m dating a secure attached person now and it’s amazing. But, the internet believes I am always the bad guy because of my attachment style, that I’m inherently abusive because of it and my partner doesn’t deserve me. Like…They just can’t see it. (I needed to let this out, thank you)

Anxiously attached people learned to amplify affect to stay safe. So they use big displays of emotion to get more of what they need.

this healed a part of me. I tried to make things work with my ex however no amount of love I showed/did for her never felt enough. my experience and feelings didn't matter as much as hers or she couldn't except that the relationship can be experienced by me too and it was a different experience than hers. she didn't believe anything I said too.

True. But it's also not okay for someone who keeps finding time for others and not for you, to tell you you're anxious and that you want too much. Or when they repeatedly show you that you can't rely on them because "they're afraid of expectations and failing you". No one is anxious just because they want to feel secure and wanted in a connection. If someone only uses words and keeps saying "yes, I care about you" but their actions don't show it, I don't really think the other person is anxious...
