Federal employment law requires hourly workers to take their lunch break no later than 6 hours after the start of their shift. This is to prevent employers from working employees too long without a food/rest break.

My sister used to have a job that wouldn’t let you leave the premise for their unpaid lunch, just in case they were needed. But if you were needed, you couldn’t clock back in until your lunch was over. They got in so much trouble from their union.

It’s your designated time slot, so no. You can’t move it. And yes you can have 8 beers, you just then can’t come back from lunch because you can’t be drunk at work. And no you can’t say that because even if you’re not on the clock, as an employee of that company you are a representative of that company. But yes, that designated hour time period is your time to NOT work. Which is what you get paid for. WORKING.

Canadian here… I work in construction we get to leave early if we don’t take lunch. We still get 2 15 minute breaks in the day 👍🏻

There is no federal law on breaks or lunch requirements, but my dad told me 40 years ago that you don’t have to work for someone that doesn’t offer breaks. I give my guys an hour paid lunch, and pay for their lunch.
