Teenagers and young adults have always had a tendency to mistake discovering an idea for inventing it (guilty🙋♀️). Part of growing up is realizing ppl have been wrestling with the same questions about sex, morality, desire, identity, society, etc for a LONG time. That’s why I’m so insufferable about reading classics/lit fic/history lol It gives you context and intellectual humility. My art teacher used to say abstract artists still studied the fundamentals before they started breaking the rules. What worries me now isn’t that young people are worse (I’m not a “kids these days” kind of person), but I fear that a lot of the fundamentals are being skipped. And I think there are people and systems with a lot to gain from disrupting that process. You know, keeping them certain, outraged and convinced there’s nothing worth learning from what came before

I think it really shows how much conservative ideology creeps in or is foundational for some people’s more liberal ideas (ex: respecting consent, being treated like a full person, autonomy, etc. but the underlying ideology is part of purity culture…)

I'm with you except for the reference to using 12-step groups. they do more harm than good. I know this because I've been through them. if you are religious and believe in God, yeah maybe they could work for you but as an atheist or even agnostic, use SMART (Self Management And Recovery Training) Recovery instead. it's all science-based and it doesn't require you to believe in anything.

I feel like this younger generation don’t really understand what having a “crush” means lol it’s just a goofy “crush” It’s not love or lust. Why is everything most people enjoy now evil 😭😭😭 like I love to have a couple glasses of wine at home alone with a good movie, I’m not an alcoholic
