“What happened to your friend?” That’s what people always ask when I tell them why she refuses to talk about her old apartment. She used to live in one of those apartment buildings where all the rooms opened into long indoor hallways. One night, she was on the phone with her friends while her little sister watched TV. Then she heard her mom call her name. “Come here.” She yelled back, “YES, MOM!” Her mom’s room was on the other side of the living room, so she got up to check. There was a glass door leading to the balcony between the rooms. She looked through it. And froze. Something was standing over her mom’s bed. It was tall and completely disorganized-looking, like its body wasn’t shaped correctly. It was leaning over her mom’s face. My friend started screaming to her friends on the phone. Then she heard her mom call her name again. She ran into the room. Her mom was asleep. Nothing was standing there. She went back to the couch, shaking. Then she heard her name again. This time, her little sister heard it too. They both ran into their bedroom, locked the door, turned on the lights, and got into bed. Eventually, they fell asleep. But my friend woke up sometime after 4 AM. She opened her eyes. The thing was standing over her and her sister. She didn’t move. She didn’t even breathe normally. She was terrified that if it knew she was awake, something would happen. So she stayed completely still. From 4 AM until 6 AM, she watched it. It never moved. It just stood there. At exactly 6 AM, it disappeared. She never saw it again. At least, that’s what she thought. A few weeks later, she showed me a picture of her old bedroom. I noticed something in the background. A dark shape was standing behind the bed. I asked her when she took it. She looked at the picture for a long time. Then she whispered, “I didn’t.” I zoomed in. The shape was leaning toward the bed. And its face was turned toward the camera. Then my phone suddenly picked up a voice. We were sitting in my room when it happened. A whisper came from the speaker. It said my friend’s name. She immediately grabbed my phone. Her face went completely pale. “That’s the voice.” I asked what she meant. She whispered, “That thing used my mom’s voice.” Then she looked toward my bedroom doorway. “It’s not using it anymore.” I asked why. She pointed at the phone. “Because now it knows yours.” #scary #scarystories #creepystorytime #horrortok #captionstory @ZAY
