to those who dont understand whats impressive is: Playing at that speed with high impact for five minutes straight causes extreme muscle fatigue and physical pain—it is the drumming equivalent of sprinting a full marathon. also his right hand, left hand, right foot, and left foot are all keeping different, intricate rhythms simultaneously, requiring insane neurological control and muscle memory

The whole point though (confirmed by the director) is that this is an upbeat sad ending. The drum player is incrdible, but he basically lost the battle to an abusive teacher who got exactly what he wanted... which is why the father of the player looks at him with that face, it's not shock of how inpressive his son is.... it is the shock that he still wants to impress that A-hole of a teacher

Those saying it's just noise are both right and wrong. Yes, it's just noise in the sense that there's no I guess you would call it melody or flow. It doesn't really tell a story. But for those of us who have a deeper understanding of music theory hear that he's basically demonstrating that he has mastered every different technique throughout the solo. Just the part where he's playing just the snare and brings the tempo from max to minimum back to max is something that not all drummers can do smoothly. it takes an incredible amount of discipline to do that and it not sound like you're going from quarters to eights to sixteens and so forth. Then the ability to play the whole kit at that crazy tempo and not miss a drum head? There's a complexity here that you have to be a nerd to enjoy.
