O maior iftar comunitário do mundo (Matareya Iftar) ocupou aproximadamente 40 ruas no bairro de Matareya, transformando-as em uma gigantesca mesa de iftar do Ramadã. Este iftar comunitário anual, organizado pelos moradores da região, recebeu mais de 100.000 pessoas em jejum. As mesas de iftar se estendiam por distâncias consideráveis pelas ruas, com voluntários, entre jovens e moradores do bairro, trabalhando desde as primeiras horas da manganizar as mesas e cadeiras. Tudo isso em antecipação à chegada de pessoas de odo o Cairo para participar deste evento único. Durante os preparativos, os moradores de Matareya conseguiram preparar quase 100.000 refeições de iftar, que foram distribuídas aos que juavam ao pôr do sol, em meio a uma atmosfera alegre de Ramadã e um espírito comunitário.
