Yesss I had this experience when I went to Sri Lanka and asked why maids weren’t paid the same wages as people who would do jobs related to care and domestic cleaning in the UK. The response I received was ‘oh we still pay a good salary so they maintain the quality of life they’re already living.’ There’s a deeper question of why people who take on caring responsibilities or any kind of labour that takes up a lot of time that we cannot afford to lose ourselves, why is their time any less valuable than ours?
