What kind of car could make the future look outdated before the future even arrived? The 1970 Lancia Stratos HF Zero. Designed by Marcello Gandini for Bertone, this extraordinary concept completely abandoned conventional sports-car proportions. Just 84 centimeters tall, the HF Zero was impossibly low, wedge-shaped and almost alien in appearance. There was barely a traditional cockpit entrance either — the entire front windscreen section lifted upward, allowing the driver to climb into a cabin that looked more like a spacecraft than a 1970s automobile. And despite its radical appearance, it wasn't purely a styling exercise. The HF Zero used a mid-mounted 1.6-liter Lancia Fulvia V4, giving this tiny wedge a genuine connection to Lancia's motorsport heritage. Decades before futuristic supercars became normal, the Stratos HF Zero was already asking a completely different question: What if a car didn't have to look like anything that came before it? This wasn't ahead of its time. It was from another time entirely. 🚀🖤 Video by: @petersenmuseum ❗️ No copyright infringement intended.
