honestly, I feel like people don't realize how large 90,000 square feet are. I helped open a Lowe's, we got the keys before the racking was in there. it was 95k square feet and it was cavernous. I cannot imagine a space that large for a "ballroom". unless you're hosting literally thousands of people, any event is gonna look like the freaking DashCon ball pit.

The Coconut Grove fire in Boston in 1942 killed 492 people. The tragedy exposed how deadly poor fire-safety design can become when hundreds of people are trying to escape at once: overcrowding, inadequate exits, inward-opening doors, and a main entrance that became a deadly bottleneck all contributed to the loss of life. Massachusetts subsequently strengthened its fire-safety requirements. Now look at the reported design concerns surrounding Trump’s White House ballroom: questions about emergency egress, fire separation, and whether the building provides adequate ways for a large crowd to get out quickly. The lesson of Coconut Grove was painfully simple: when a building is full of people, exits aren't an aesthetic detail. They're what stands between an emergency and a mass-casualty event. We learned that lesson in 1942. We shouldn't have to learn it again.
