Coldwell was originally convicted of engaging in sexual communication with a child after grooming an online decoy he believed was a 14-year-old schoolboy, asking for pictures of his feet and fantasising about him in school. That conviction placed him on the Sex Offenders Register and handed him a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. In June, police officers carried out a routine compliance visit at Coldwell's home. During the visit, Coldwell admitted possessing undeclared internet-enabled devices in direct breach of his court restrictions. Officers searched the property and seized multiple illicit electronics. At Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Tuesday, 21 July, Coldwell admitted two counts of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment.
