My parents have a very nice house and cars. The subject of inheritance came up between me and my sister(we're in our 50s). I told her, we're not getting anything. They're sitting on a massive pile of debt. I expect nothing. She was crushed.

we need to look at the boomers as a trial in self reliance. they failed because they were given everything and hated everyone else. this isnt a generational gap, this is all the wealth going to the 1% because the boomers were tricked by trickle down economics.

I work at a bank, and a lot of them have money, but they don’t have official beneficiaries, POAs, or PODs. So their money is just in limbo.

Yeah some boomers are in good shape, but there are a lot that are absolutely broke. For a lot of kids there is nothing to inherit, its more like a funeral bill and a mess to cleanup.

I worked insurance for 8 years and quit last year. It was exhausting hearing “I don’t need it” everytime you brought up life insurance. And heartbreaking hearing “I can’t afford that” from people truly needing it.

My MIL built her house in 1993 (for $107k mind you) and still has not paid off her home. She's on her 3rd HELOC. At dinner this past winter she announced she was going to start a 401k- She's 68 years old. I laughed so hard I really thought it was a joke. It wasn't. She's an RN. She's had the time and money to protect herself she just never thought she would get old and always thought she was the smartest person in the room.
