It’s about your positioning, patience and making life difficult for the winger. Here’s what to focus on: ⚽ 1. Get your positioning right Stay inside the triangle between the ball, your attacker and the nearest post. Be close enough to your attacker to react, while staying goal-side and aware of the ball. ⚽ 2. Use little jabs, not haymakers Get low, stay balanced and edge closer to the ball. Instead of diving in with a big tackle, use small, controlled attempts to win it while staying ready to react if the attacker shifts away. ⚽ 3. Show them where you want them to go Use your body position to guide the winger towards the touchline. Stay patient, protect the inside and avoid overcommitting. Your job is to slow them down, limit their options and give your teammates time to recover. The key? Stay goal-side. Stay balanced. Stay patient.
