You don't have to LIKE auditors.
That's the beauty of constitutional rights: they don't depend on whether the person exercising them is likable.
Glik — 1st Circuit
Fields — 3rd
Turner — 5th
Alvarez — 7th
Fordyce — 9th
Irizarry — 10th
Smith v. City of Cumming — 11th
Those courts recognize First Amendment protection for recording public officials/police performing public duties in public, subject to reasonable time, place, manner, safety, and interference restrictions.
So criticize the auditor's behavior all you want. But "he's annoying," "he wants a lawsuit," and "I don't like his attitude" aren't legal standards.
If the auditor is acting like a clown, let the camera prove it.
If the public servant doesn't know the law, lets ego take over, calls police to remove someone who's lawfully present, or retaliates against protected activity, let the camera prove that too.
That's the entire point of transparency.
