Her final action was the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944. During the Battle off Samar on 25 October, Suzuya was damaged by American aircraft. A nearby destroyer was hit, causing additional damage to Suzuya. Fires reached her torpedoes, and she suffered catastrophic explosions. Fate: Sank on 25 October 1944, off Samar, Philippines.
