I bought a house at 20, and another at 30. This is my first time hosting Thanksgiving. I’ve been a homeowner for 10 years. I always accepted that my sisters hosted. My house was never big enough and I didn’t have kids, but if I get an ounce of attention from my parents it’s a big deal.

My dad called me the other day to tell me to stop sending them presents on holidays because they don’t want to exchange any with me anymore 😭 he’s a grandpa now so I guess I get it but it kind of hurt? It’s not like I want or need presents but i live across the country and to be thought of means a lot. But I guess not anymore 🥺

I was literally told “well you’re just so strong and independent that sometimes we forget you may need help or want to be included” but the main reason I’m so strong and independent is because nobody includes me and I had to figure out how to just do things on my own.

That was my life. I was the oldest. Neglected. Took care of the other kids. They used me as they had kids. For money and babysitting. Then when I finally had a kid at 42 it was as if I had committed a crime because they knew the money train had ended.
