I would be mortified, horrified, and sob for probably weeks if my horse was pulled up for blood because I would feel so awful. I don’t understand how people are ok with competing horses in this condition

And that poor horse used to have amazing rides in a hackamore and to look at her in that photo really hurts. I’m not anti bit as a whole but this mare literally took her previous rider to the Olympics so to see her go from an amazing home with someone who understood her to someone who’s just adding more tools to compensate for his inability to ride sucks. I’ve seen videos of her rounds now and you can’t help but feel bad for her. Even in photos you can see how lifeless she looks now like she hates her job that she used to love so much.

I do endurance and I love how full on they are on the welfare but sometimes they can go a bit too far like my horse flared her nostrils twice after a 40 (she has done 80s and had a year off before doing a few 20k training rides) and the vet kept criticising us and saying “that horse has had a hard 40” and wanted to vet us out but after a represent with the head vets she got through

i think the defenders dont know how hard it actually is to make a horse bleed, due to tack or strength. The only way i can happen accidentally is it comes from a tongue bite or stepping on its own heels

I don’t have the best feeling in my lower body, so it’s usually pretty hard for me to tell if something is “off” while riding. I have always been SO grateful and immediately hopped off, untacked, and investigated when someone says the horse I’m riding might look a little off. Like yes, PLEASE tell me!!😭 Even if it ends up being nothing, I’d much rather get off for no reason than know I rode a lame/injured horse. I would hope a judge/spectator would pull me up too, no ribbon is worth that.

eventing they do, SJ they dont have people close enough to spot most of the time and pulling up between fences. I think they have tunnel checks but I think its very important for more checks in warm up and entry to make sure its not being removed

“Accidents happen” How tf do you pull or kick your horse so hard you cause blood? It’s not easy to make an animal bleed with a blunt object in their mouth, the amount of bruising that horse has on a regular basis I can only imagine ☹️
