@guerasaliadas: Thousands of people in ICE detention are disappearing from the system families and attorneys rely on to find them. Beginning September 15th, ICE stopped displaying the detention locations of people with final removal orders in its Online Detainee Locator System (ODLS). The change was not publicly announced. Reporting also indicates that officers have been instructed not to provide their locations to families or attorneys over the phone. A final removal order does not mean someone has already been deported. People can remain in detention for months, and families still need to know where they are to communicate with them, fund phone accounts, send mail, and stay connected. Attorneys may also need to locate clients to pursue remaining legal options. At Güeras Aliadas, we already spend hours, days, and sometimes weeks trying to locate people when they are transferred or disappear from ICE’s system.
