AT LASH Toolshed here. Had a few experiences with mice all night long. I started hammocking about 23 years ago and never looked back. Also there’s always a shelter where a weirdo showed up.

I stayed in them when they still had wire bunks. Creaking noises all night when someone turned over. Also dealt with the mice. I would hag my pack from the rafters with a barrier halfway down the cord. Some still got through by jumping between packs hanging too close.

The mice !! I spent a night in a lean too. And they kept running across me. Creepy feeling Should have set up a tent!!

Stayed in shelter with 10 novice hikers. Around 2am was awaken by blow to the head followed by a blinding light. One of the hikers was trying to hit a mouse scurrying over my forehead with his flashlight. Last night ever in a shelter.

Facts. I don’t mind camping near a shelter as it has water commode and not a bad place to hang out if it’s raining to get a break.

I’ve been section hiking the AT and I’m dreading the smokies as you “have” to stay in shelters also I’m not a ground dweller, my back doesn’t like the ground.
