@elorm_alek: For thirteen years, if you graduated from what's now the University of Ghana, your actual diploma had London's fingerprints all over it, the school started life in 1948 as the University College of the Gold Coast, an affiliate of the University of London, which supervised its programs and signed off on every degree. Even after independence in 1957, when it got renamed the University College of Ghana, that arrangement stuck around. Then in 1961, Parliament passed the University of Ghana Act, and the college finally got to hand out degrees under its own name, no more borrowed authority from London. And fittingly, when the university was established that year, Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's own head of state, stepped in as its first Chancellor.
