I'm sorry if this is very long winded. I was born and raised Roman Catholic, went to Catholic School, served as an altar boy, and received the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, holy Communion, and reconciliation but as a kid I always just saw it as ritual things that you were supposed to do like brushing your teeth and bathing. I lost my faith at 13 years old when the widespread child sexual abuse and cover-ups at every level of the church started to come to light by the media in 2002. I fell in with a bad crowd and lived a life of wrongdoing, hatred, and sin until my first son was born in 2014. I walked away from that life and everyone associated with it as well and dedicated myself solely to my family. Since then I've married my wife (in a non denominational parish) and we've had another 2 amazing sons. Recently I've been feeling a pull from somewhere to come back to God, I get choked up and teary eyed every time I think about it, I just don't know how. I still have so many questions, reservations, and still some anger toward the church but I still can't deny the calling I feel to be a better person and come back to Jesus. I posted this same thing on the Catholicism subreddit and was told that in the Church's eyes my marriage is invalid and I cannot make a true confession because I continue to live in the sin of being married without a bishop's consent. That would make me not worthy of receiving the Eucharist or any other sacrament worthily and therefore salvation and absolution would not be given to me by God. Please help me to understand how pledging my lifelong commitment, loving, supporting, and creating life with one woman is such an egregious sin that I would be denied the absolution and salvation of my soul in the eyes of God? Would you have any advice?

The best confessions are honestly therapy for the soul. ❤️Time flies with my priest because he doesn’t just explain the sin, he gives me practical steps to truly repent and avoid repeating it. I think confession is sometimes misunderstood by non-Catholics. Saying your sins out loud, taking accountability, and receiving guidance from someone who has devoted their life to God and studied Scripture helps me grow closer to Him and genuinely change. 🙏🏻✝️

I went to my first mass last Sunday, in the homily the priest literally told the congregation to go home and read the passage 4 TIMES!!! and to let the passage bother us.

2 Peter proclaimed forgiveness through Christ and with Simon he declared that Simon needed to repent and pray to God he was not sitting there functioning like a later Catholic confessional priest and Paul calling himself a father in the gospel does not automatically establish the Catholic priesthood because Paul explains exactly what he means he became their father THROUGH THE GOSPEL by bringing them to Christ and bringing up what Jews practiced before Christ does not establish what Christians are commanded to practice after Christ especially when Hebrews says the old system was shadow and Christ is our High Priest and Scripture says there is ONE mediator between God and men the man Christ Jesus and Revelation does not say departed saints are receiving Christians prayers Revelation 5 shows the elders possessing bowls identified as the prayers of the saints and Revelation 8 shows an angel presenting incense with the prayers before God but neither passage says Christians addressed those prayers to dead saints and you cannot just declare that the angel in Revelation 8 is Jesus because the text does not identify him that way the actual point is that the prayers ultimately go before GOD and then First John destroys the idea that later teachings automatically become apostolic simply because a church calls them developments because John says let what you heard FROM THE BEGINNING abide in you and he says he wrote because people were trying to deceive them then tells believers to test the spirits and Jude says the faith was ONCE FOR ALL delivered to the saints so yes the apostolic faith can be explained and defended more clearly but any later doctrine still has to be shown to actually come from what was delivered from the beginning you cannot introduce something centuries later and prove it merely by saying the church developed it read Scripture in its full context bro 😭

CCC 1548 In the ecclesial service of the ordained minister, it is Christ himself who is present to his Church as Head of his Body… This is what the Church means by saying that the priest, by virtue of the sacrament of Holy Orders, acts in persona Christi Capitis. It is the same priest, Christ Jesus, whose sacred person his minister truly represents. Now the minister, by reason of the sacerdotal consecration which he has received, is truly made like to the high priest and possesses the authority to act in the power and place of the person of Christ himself (virtute ac persona ipsius Christi).

Seems like a person with a hard hart. I pray for the souls he is leading down a path condomnation. I see a lot of Pride in him too. That is why leaders and teachers will be judged more strictly because they have souls in their hands

You've obviously never read The Apostolic Constitutions. The Apostolic Constitutions The Passage (Book II, Chapter 26) The text outlines the role and status of the bishop in highly exalted terms: "The bishop, he is the minister of the word, the keeper of knowledge, the mediator between God and you in the several parts of your divine worship. He is the teacher of piety; and, next after God, he is your father, who has begotten you again to the adoption of sons by water and the Spirit. He is your ruler and governor; he is your king and potentate; he is, next after God, your earthly god, who has a right to be honoured by you. For concerning him, and such as he, it is that God pronounces, 'I have said, Ye are gods; and ye are all children of the Most High.'"

Those verses read in context show If someone genuinely represents Jesus and the gospel, accepting that messenger’s teaching is an act of accepting Jesus, while rejecting the messenger’s God given message constitutes rejection of Jesus.

“Father” in Matthew 23 In the ESV, Jesus says “call no man your father on earth.” The verb is about address and title. “Father” is grouped with “rabbi” and “instructors”—honorifics that set a man above the rest as the source of teaching or spiritual standing. The contrast is explicit: “you have one Father, who is in heaven.” Earthly use of the title is restricted because it can steal honor that belongs to God. The next two verses push the same point: greatness is service; self-exaltation will be reversed. This is not a ban on every use of the English word “father.” Jesus and the rest of Scripture still speak of biological fathers, of Abraham as father, and of elders as “fathers.” The target in Matthew 23 is the title used for prestige—the same spirit that loved the best seats and public greetings. “Father” in 1 Corinthians 4 In the ESV, Paul does not ask to be called Father. He says two things: “You do not have many fathers.” “I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.” The first clause uses the noun (pateras); the second describes what happened when he preached. He is naming origin: they have many tutors, but only one person through whom they were begotten in the gospel. That is why he can admonish them “as my beloved children” and urge them to imitate him. Earlier in the same letter he still calls himself and Apollos servants (1 Corinthians 3:5; 4:1). The father language is relational and analogical, not a demand for an honorific.

THE CART BEFORE THE HORSE . For a Unitarian, its like a comedy of errors, witnessing Protestant and Catholic Trinitarians circle the drain together locked in an endless war. Every now and then, if your trained to hear it, the biggest error of all strikes a foul chord. . False: "There are saints in heaven that recieve prayers." . God breathed his spirit into the flesh he had formed from the ground, and the man became a living soul. The soul sinning dies, his spirit (on loan from God) goes out, and returns to God who gave it, he goes back to the ground, and in that day his thoughts perish. . And the dead asleep in the memorial tombs will come out, when raised on the last day. . The angels in heaven, offer up the prayers of the saints on earth to God like incense, figuratively, because we are forbidden to pray to angels, and shall never attempt to speak to the dead. . The Catholics play an elaborate game of word substitution, because they cant let go of Vahalla. . No one accents to heaven, accept the son who came down from heaven. . And you will live forever and never die, after the reserection.

1 Goofy 😭 the things of the old covenant were a shadow of what was coming and Christ is the reality Colossians 2 says those things were a shadow but the substance belongs to Christ and Hebrews says Jesus is now our great High Priest and that He lives forever to make intercession for us Jesus said forgiveness of sins would be preached in HIS NAME and when you bring up the apostles forgiving or retaining sins you have to actually look at how Acts shows them exercising that authority
