@Marc: Great information! Do you think having dual practice that has a requirement of a minimum number of hours in the public system?Obviously the number of doctors or surgeons will limit what can actually be done but does this help attract talent?

It’s more than that. They get the lowest risk easiest clients and if there is a problem they go right back to the public system to pick up the pieces.

Please talk about how the public system would be the one dealing with the complications of BOTH public and private systems, effectively subsidizing the private. Infection requiring IV antibiotics? Developed a PE post-op? You'd likely be coming to a public system hospital.

We had a two tiered system. Those who could pay, went to the US or Mexico or India. Bringing it to Alberta, will can do nothing but make wait times longer for those without the resources.

Thank you for this info. Would you consider the fact that our medical system, going back pre COVID, was absolutely not set up for the amount of medical care needed. It’s totally collapsed- not enough beds, no up-to-date medical equipment etc etc etc. it’s more than just dividing the private from the public. Will more private clinics be built to sustain this change? Will we secure appropriate medical equipment? Can private and public care coexist if we have the right amount of funding and resources for building a better public medical care system??

We have had a 2 tiered system for a long long time. Have mental health issues-pay to see a therapist, pay for naturalpath, chiro, physio, massage etc. Now you have to pay for hormone replacement therapy if your dr doesn't believe in it, pay for skin cancer screening etc etc

Two tiered healthcare system will destroy our publicly funded system. Your example of the hip replacement that you could pay $30,000 to jump the line. Let’s not forget how they got the 30,000+ dollars, tax breaks for the rich, businesses paying minimum wage. The Rich got richer on the backs of the poor a two tier system would add insult to injury. The federal government has the authority to force any province away from the two tier.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

AGREE!! I’ve just been informed that I will have to wait over 2 years for publicly available menopause care or pay $500 for a 6 month wait for a private service. Seriously!! This is so unfair to those who can’t pay… and women will almost always prioritize $500 towards their kids and extended family over themselves. So unfair!!

the conflict of interest is clear, and then we have things lole routine cataract surgeries happening in the Royal Alex instead of an auxiliary location, and that beautiful yet very empty eye clinic sucks up main floor real estate while the ER next door looks like a war zone. I think there's a lot of common sense that has been lacking due to egos and politics and it's obvious that any executive not willing to go along with privatization was given a hefty severance along with their NDA.
