@holvek: A quasar is the incredibly bright active core of a young and distant galaxy, powered by a supermassive black hole at its center. As the black hole rapidly consumes surrounding gas and matter, it forms a spinning accretion disk. Due to intense friction and gravity, the matter in this disk heats up to millions of degrees, releasing a colossal amount of energy. These cosmic beacons are among the most powerful objects in the universe. A single quasar can shine thousands of times brighter than an entire galaxy composed of hundreds of billions of stars. Remarkably, all of this immense energy originates from a region that is relatively tiny by cosmic standards — roughly the size of our solar system. Because quasars are located billions of light-years away from Earth, their light has taken immense time to reach us. By studying them today, astronomers are literally looking into the distant past. This allows scientists to investigate the early stages of the universe's evolution and the formation of the very first galaxies billions of years ago. #quasar #blackhole #pulsar #scary
