Multi-agent AI" isn't one thing — it's three. Here's each. You keep hearing "multi-agent." For a big job you don't use one AI — you use a team. But there are three ways to wire that team, and they're not the same: Orchestrator (the manager) → one lead agent splits the job, hands each piece to a worker (each with its own fresh context), then collects it all back. This is exactly what Claude Code does with sub-agents. Best for a big job you can split up. Peer-to-peer (no boss) → agents talk directly to each other and sort it out themselves. The most flexible — and the messiest: with no one in charge they can talk in circles and step on each other. Powerful, but not where you start. Sequential pipeline (assembly line) → a fixed chain, A → B → C, in order. Predictable, easy to debug, but no parallel. Great when the steps have to happen in sequence.
