I’m 37 and embarrassed to admit that . . . It took me far too long to appreciate the female condition. As a girl dad of 3 and husband to an incredible woman, you’d have thought I’d have taken more time earlier to understand better the pains and fears they go through on the regular. - I’d heard of periods but only knew that women bleed 🩸 at some point during the month. Didn’t know there are 4 phases, endometriosis, or that you can track it to help make life better. - I knew women get pregnant and they get heavier but I didn’t know some can’t, or it’s very difficult to do-so. I didn’t know about HG or preeclampsia, perinatal or postpartum depression. I didn’t know how often women can miscarry or about stillborns. That we would have to fight hospitals for the right care and not just be given drugs. - Lastly, and worst of all, I didn’t understand why many women hate men. Why they’d choose the bear. That the Cornell, Stanford, LSU, BYU, athletes aren’t the only ones who’ve gotten away with r_pe. It’s countless others. That my wife has had to constantly keep her head on a swivel in public since she was 14 simply because she’s a girl. That women have to constantly be aware because sure, it’s “not all men” but you never know which man will. Not when there was the UPS driver, the estranged dad, the teacher, the coach, the church leader, the uncle, the frat etc. The list goes on. Wish I appreciated the struggle earlier in my life but now I know better. 3 lessons I’ve finally learned. 1. Track your lady’s period. Feed her and act accordingly. Understand how hers hits. (Heavy, endo, PCOS, Polyps etc.) we literally plan travel or family visits around this. 2. Study all you can about the birthing process and what can go wrong. Speak up with doctors and be forceful, they usually don’t listen otherwise. Nourish her. Study how to handle depression, anxiety, and insomnia. 3. Be a safe space. Be the man that she deserves. The amount of women that hate men is high because too many men are selfish and lustful liars. They’re dangerous. Be the reason she can trust, not just another one she can’t. Live your legacy. #dopedad #marriage #truth
