Noland was an explorer and botanist who was considered a liar, even though many of the things he talked about were actually true. Usopp is also known for being a liar, but as the story progresses, many of his lies start becoming reality. Their connection is also shown in the story when Usopp introduced himself to the Tontatta as Usoland, a descendant of Noland. This is what makes the concept of Past & Future in One Piece so interesting.
