@thedizzycook: The craziest neurological disorder that never gets taken seriously. Migraine affects nearly 1 billion people worldwide as a leading cause of disability, yet gets an astonishing lack of funding comparatively. Migraine affects women 3x more than men, yet all the CGRP inhibitor medications that are constantly talked about aren’t permitted during pregnancy. You ask what else can you try and you’re met with “oh there’s not much evidence for anything else….good luck”. Migraine is also a spectrum disorder which means some people have more frequent attacks, some have occasional debilitating attacks, some live with daily symptoms that they have to work through - and it can even vary with the same person! So if you see someone cooking or more active, it may be more of a lower symptom day or they might have no other choice than to work through it. I’m often told how my attacks are nothing compared to someone else because I experience more dizziness and vertigo instead of head pain (sometimes I don’t even have head pain). I share how caffeine is a giant trigger for me and I don’t tolerate the ingredients in Diet Coke and somehow it’s extremely controversial that someone can have a different experience with migraine, and not be helped by caffeine. (It also concerns me how much people seem to be using it instead of seeing a neurologist for an acute treatment that doesn’t have risk of overuse, but I digress.) I’m often told “I don’t even know what a real migraine attack is” after losing my job and being unable to work or drive because of chronic vestibular migraine - which I had constant, unrelenting symptoms for around 3 years and have navigated life with it for 10 years. It doesn’t make sense to fight about this within our own community or try to one up each other with who has it worse. IT’S ALL BAD AND ALL EXPERIENCES WITH MIGRAINE ARE VALID. And it stinks and I’m frustrated by it. 😔 All I can keep doing is sharing free resources for vestibular migraine and recipes that will hopefully bring you some comfort on bad days. people really don't understand migraines. I don't have migraines anymore. I only have normal head aches sometimes. I can ignore a normal head ache and still work. It's okay. But a migraine is disableing. It's so severe that you can't function at all. Forcing someone to work or go to school with migraines is torture. Every time I worked while having a migraine attack I vomited after work

I suffer from severe chronic migraines. One eye closes completely and gets smaller, the other almost closes, I can barely see, and half of my face become paralyzed. A migraine is not “just a headache.” People think a headache is the same and is not. I wish I had just a mild headache.

What I can’t stand is people who barely ever even get a normal headache, yet somehow feel entitled to give you advice like, “Drink more water,” “Drink less coffee,” “Drink more coffee,” “Get more sleep,” “Don’t sleep too much”… as if they know what you’re going through.
Please, keep your opinions to yourselves.

I have had them since 12. Never been to an ER. Throwing up for hours with excruciating pain. The pain of going to an ER during a migraine is unimaginable.

I suffer from migraines and the worst is when people get annoyed because you are having one. Especially when it's a family member! As if we choose to suffer from debilitating pain a few times a month! 😡😫

But where is the line between a headache and a migraine? In my case, I get headaches sometimes up to 3-4 times a month (or maybe once every two months), and at first, they aren’t that annoying. I can be fine for a few hours. BUT with some headaches, if I let them go without taking medicine at all, after about 9-12 hours they can give me so much pain that doesn’t let me do much of anything, and possibly have nausea and dizziness. Are those migraines…? Knowing that my head will get that way, if a headache lasts more than 2-3 hours, I will always take naproxen to prevent it from getting that way. I’ve never in my life ever let a headache go more than 12 hours without taking something bc I’d be afraid of what would happen. At that point I can’t stand to be in my body, but it’s usually preventable. If I do take medication, sometimes it goes away or other times remains a dull on and off annoyance for a few days.
