Two weeks had passed, and Oom’s morning routine had solidified into absolute habit. Every day at precisely 7:45 AM, the chime above the doorway rang out. Every day, Oom walked in, stole a piece of fruit or frosting from the prep counter, teased Bam until the quiet chef sighed, and sat on her designated barstool with Bae Bee purring loudly on her lap.
"Bambi!" Oom called out, leaning across the marble counter. She wore her faded blue denim jacket over her engineering polo, a stray pencil tucked carelessly behind her right ear. "I have a challenge for you." Bam walked out from the kitchen holding a silver tray of fresh tarts. She paused, raising an eyebrow in silent question. "I want a cake that tastes like pasta," Oom declared, crossing her arms with a triumphant grin. Lena stifled a snort from behind the espresso machine, setting down a freshly polished glass. "Khun Oom, please don't give her ideas. She might actually figure out how to make savory pasta mousse, and then I'll be the one forced to sample it." "Hey! Pasta cake could be a masterpiece!" Oom argued playfully, turning her bright eyes back to Bam. "Come on, Bambi! You’re an award-winning genius. You can make Oreo taste like a luxury dessert. Surely you can make tomato and basil work in a cake." "No," Bam said flatly, turning back toward the kitchen. "Bambi" Oom whined, dragging out the vowels. "Just a tiny slice? For your favorite customer?" Bam stopped at the kitchen door. She turned around slowly, eyes narrowing slightly. "Who said you were my favorite customer?" "Bae Bee told me," Oom said without missing a beat, patting the Persian cat curled comfortably against her side. "And Bae Bee never lies." "Bae Bee also sells her soul for a single freeze-dried salmon bite," Lena chimed in with a giggle, leaning against the counter. "So her loyalty is entirely questionable." A faint, fleeting twitch touched the corner of Bam’s lips before she masked it behind her usual stoic composure. "Lena is correct. Bae Bee is easily bribed." Before Oom could retort, the front door swung open. A bouquet of vibrant pink peonies and delicate yellow tulips filled the doorway, carried by a tall, stylish woman with a energetic smile. "Delivery for my favorite grumpy baker!" Orm called out, stepping into the shop. Orm Kornnaphat, owner of the flower shop next door and Bam’s best friend, set the bouquet down on the main display counter. She glanced at Oom, then at Bam and Lena, immediately catching the familiar spark of lively chaos in the air. "Good morning, Orm," Bam said gently, tone noticeably softer and warmer than the cool demeanor she kept with regular patrons. "Morning, Orm!" Lena greeted warmly, moving over to help arrange the fresh blooms in a glass vase. "You brought peonies today! Bam's favorite." Oom’s eyes flicked between Orm, Lena, and Bam. A strange, tight knot formed in her chest, sudden, irrational, and completely uninvited. "Who's your friend, Bambi?" Oom voice dropping its usual playful lilt and taking on a slightly sharper edge. "This is Orm, my best friend," Bam explained politely. "Orm, this is Khun Oom. She is a frequent visitor." "Ah! The structural engineer who visits every single morning!" Orm grinned broadly, extending a hand. "Bam and Lena talk about." "We do not," Bam interrupted quickly, her cheeks flushing a faint, unmistakable pink. She grabbed a towel and began aggressively wiping down an already spotless section of marble. "Oh, we definitely do," Lena added with a mischievous grin, nudging Orm's shoulder. "Chef Bam checks the clock every morning at 7:40 AM like clockwork." "Lena," Bam warned softly, though her flush deepened. Orm smirked, winking at Oom. "See? Total workaholic, but at least she has us to keep her human. Anyway, Bam, are we still on for dinner tonight? My mother sent over fresh seafood from the coast, and Lena is joining us too." "Yes," Lena nodded eagerly. "I'm bringing the lemon tarts." Oom’s eyes widened slightly. "Dinner?" #oomeisaya #bamsaralee #oombam
