that's fine, but it's just that some people paid hundreds of dollars for the event. trying yes, but the women who attended paid for it.

Technically the conference started in 2011, but I’m def with you! It seemed overall like a wonderful event, an incredible line up, and a great networking opportunity!

#FreeGame: when you’re in the “trying” stage, you get sponsors so you can offer free tickets and make the corporate sponsor’s marketing/media/PR team apart of the committee to make sure you execute well. “Trying” an event doesn’t have sponsors + charging people $500+ for tickets with understanding that ticket prices translates to value exchange. If you charge hundreds of dollars, there’s a (rightful) expectation of value exchange. This is Event Planning 101 TBH.

That's fine but the prices of tickets should reflect it especially if you're scaling up.

I appreciate this, because I do think it is possible to have a nuanced and contextual conversation. I think it’s important to start small! Especially if you are still figuring things out, people want to jump to go big so quickly. Because they did charge all this money and hadn’t fully actualized at that scale

Lowkey they actually do need to put this on, they need the money/profit, it’s not free, it’s hundreds of dollars, no one is doing anyone a favor here, if people are paying that much for an event, it needs to be planned correctly or maybe they’re not ready to scale up? Something as simple of food not running out, is event 101, I’m not saying we should dog pile or be nasty but the critiques I’ve seen have been very valid

I understand your point, but this wasn’t a free event, paying $400 tickets for them to run out of lunch and snacking on chips is crazy work

I think you make a good point - my argument to this would be that this is where you hire experts. Hire people that have done this before and have done it well to help you along. I’m not assuming this didn’t happen, but I have seen it more often than not where people think they know what to do and what to expect and then things that could have been avoided go sideways and domino quickly.

Soo I attended this year for the first time.. and truly enjoyed my experience. The food was the only issue which I feel they rectified the best they could especially on day 2. I had a plan attending the festival and executed it. Met people I would have never been in the room with and made great connections.

The thing is they’ve been doing these for a minute. I went to an event in NYC back in 2019 while in grad school… so respectfully they should know better.

I had not heard about this conference, which tells me I successfully removed my self from the girl boss list-serves. Yes, I use to be at those brunches 😅 That era was a fun one but wore off once the talking points were no longer new. I’m in a rest, reset and move with intention space.

Why as the consumer are we supposed to constantly just eat shit and give up our money and say thank you and hope for better next time? Nothing they are doing is new. They fell short. To your point you’re absolutely right. They didn’t HAVE to do this.

As an event producer in LA, the first step is to hire a credible event production agency that has experience in areas you don’t. As far as speakers, their PR, marketing and sales teams need some seriously brand alignment.
