@doggy_dropins: 🐾 Cooper’s grooming journey 🐾 Cooper came to us with some previous grooming experiences that hadn’t been the easiest for him. His owners have been absolutely brilliant throughout — they’ve been open and honest with us about his history, which is so important because it allows us to make a proper plan around what HE needs. ❤️ For Cooper’s first visits, we’ve also worked alongside advice from his vet, including prescribed medication to help him cope. Medication should always be discussed with and prescribed by your vet — please don’t use calming or sedating medication that hasn’t been prescribed specifically for your dog. Your vet can assess what is appropriate and safe for them. But medication isn’t the whole answer. Sometimes a change of environment, a calmer approach, more time, a different handling style and simply having a groomer who understands the individual dog can make a huge difference. Our aim with Cooper isn’t to rush him through a groom or expect him to just “put up with it”. We’re going to work WITH him. 🐶 He’ll be on a gradual plan where we can build trust, confidence and positive associations with grooming. Initially, we’ll use limited, appropriate restraint where necessary to keep everyone safe, but the long-term goal is to reduce this and eventually come away from restraints as much as possible once Cooper is comfortable and we’ve made grooming a genuinely positive experience for him. It may take time, and we’re completely okay with that. ❤️ The goal isn’t simply to get Cooper looking perfect — it’s to help him feel safe, understood and happier during his grooming appointments.
