@manyfacegoddess: STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED FOR CALIFORNIA We feel the temperature dropping DRASTICALLY here in ARIZONA! Water temps in the key Niño 3.4 region have reached 3 degrees C above average (ONI), matching the record set during 2015's 'super' El Niño event. This year's event reached the record mark two months earlier than in 2015, and it's still climbing. Laguna Beach, Dana Point, and Malibu have already declared local emergencies this month after Marie eroded beaches and closed off parts of the coast. Along the California coast and across Hawaii, we're currently collecting shoreline position and wave run-up data continuously before, during, and after each storm. That's giving our current Surfline Coastal Intelligence partners the data for both near-term decisions, like where to stage resources or when to close an access point, as well as a comprehensive picture of how these beaches are changing and recovering over time.
