@cantbuymelove99: Do any of you genXers remember something called SRA in grammar School? You had to get through all the colors I think. Was this a thing? Or am I dreaming this?

Yes and we still had them when I started teaching in the late nineties. It was kind of shocking that they were still around 20 years after I used them as a child.

Yes! We had boxes on shelves with the different colors. We also had quick read books that came with questions to answer afterwards for reading comprehension

Yes, I loved the cards. I was a voracious reader. But now looking back, anyone who struggled must have been devastated because everyone knew what color cards you were reading.

I loved SRAs. I got into trouble because I read every card at every level but ignored the comprehension quizzes. SRA introduced me to authors such as Jack London, EB White, Helen Keller, John F Kennedy, Walt Whitman, etc. I couldn't get enough. My love of reading multiple genres was fueled by those snippets of stories from SRA.

I loved SRA. It was the reward for finishing your work early. Reading was a treat!
As an adult I read about 5 books a week, which includes audible books. SRA is how it started. I also am an incredibly fast reader.
