@tacklemerchantfc: Winning headers as a defender isn’t just about being the tallest player on the field. 🧠⚽ It’s about reading the play early, getting into the right position, timing your jump, and attacking the ball instead of waiting for it to come to you. Before the ball is played, scan your surroundings and locate the attacker. Get goal-side early so you’re not chasing the striker once the cross is in the air. Then, when the ball comes toward you, attack the space and meet it at the highest point you can. Your timing matters just as much as your jumping ability. Jumping too early can leave you underneath the ball, while waiting too long can allow the attacker to get there first. Read the flight of the ball, stay balanced, and attack it with your forehead. And remember: a good defensive header isn’t just about winning the duel. Where the ball goes after you win it matters. Try to direct it away from danger and toward a teammate when possible. Scan early. Get goal-side. Attack the ball. Time your jump. Win the duel. Save this for your next training session and send it to a defender who needs to improve their aerial game.
