And if Jesus stood directly in front of him performing miracles, some still wouldn’t believe.

Hmmm.. I think that’s where the standard becomes circular. If you’re saying the Gospels would be more believable if you removed the miraculous parts then you’ve basically created a standard where a miracle could actually happen BUT the moment someone historically records it, the account becomes less credible because it contains a miracle. If God actually exists and Jesus actually did these things, wouldn’t we EXPECT the historical accounts about him to include the supernatural? 🤔

He’s technically moving the goal post regarding if the evidence is miraculous about Jesus, that’s the only time he doesn’t have a standard. He just plainly don’t want to believe miracles from Jesus within antiquity.

This is a level of scrutiny people never apply to other things.. Also like Frank Turek likes to say, it's not an evidence problem, it's a heart problem. Even through out scripture we see people that saw miracles and still didn't believe. i feel like for most (not this gentleman specifically) "skeptics" it's just a cop out because they feel it's an easy stance to take and say "yeah, I'm not convinced"

The claim being made definitely changes what standard of evidence is required to accept the claim. This guy doesnt even follow his own standard because I gurantee he denies plenty of mythological claims that's in books.

I watched the episode. For me I think his p.o.v was “nitpicky” in a way. One with the translations. Then again with eyewitness accounts. Then how they are recorded. Then well “if that’s his brother, why didn’t he speak on his brother more” paraphrasing of course. I can understand his p.o.v because for him, multiple in my opinion, small “issues” ig put doubt within. To me personally those “small misunderstandings” aren’t enough to say it isn’t true. Loved this conversation!

We don't have nearly the amount of writings and testimony for anyone else in the first century that's even remotely comparable to what we have for Jesus Christ. Like you can't make this up, we don't have more evidence that anyone else was who they said they were in the first century besides Jesus Christ.

I disagree with the kids conclusion but his argument that one can require greater evidence for a more difficult to believe or higher stakes claim is valid. If someone broke their arm and said it happened skiing you would likely believe them at face value if they said they broke it stopping a speeding car with their bare hands...their personal testimony probably wouldn't be enough.

So he changes his methodology of determining truth only when it comes to Jesus for the sole purpose of denying Him.

He wants it documented like we do now? Fine! There are tons of miracles that have been meticulously documented in the last couple hundred years. At some point, it’s not the miracles that are the issue.

I completely understand where he’s coming from because if the claim is extraordinary then the evidence should also be extraordinary for example noone argues whether or not Helen Keller existed or that she was blind and deaf but ima need a lil more proof before I believe she actually flew a plane that information alone isn’t believable

Someone existed vs someone is the son of god and god at the same time and also came back from the dead and deserves our worship — I just don’t understand why the latter wouldn’t require more evidence. What am I missing here?

Once I realized, no amount of evidence will ever be good enough for the person I'm talking to. I always tell them even if Jesus decides to come down from heaven and do a jig On your table, you still wouldn't believe in him.. and I've had five people go, "you're right I wouldn't" they don't want to believe in him even if there is sufficient proof and it's really sad

John the disciple is a first hand account and I think another one of The Gospels is too. Also, only counting first hand accounts as legitimate means nearly all history should be thrown out. Even if the book of (John) wasn't specifically written by John possibly due to illiteracy, which would fit his status for the time period, it could've easily been written by a close follower of the disciples themselves who John asked to write. Making this still a first hand account. (John 21:24; This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.)
