@econwithsarah: 9/23/2026: What would a diesel embargo mean for you? Other videos about diesel: @Econ with Sarah, PhD #economics #diesel #gasprices #finance
this energy supply crisis show the world how extremely dependent we are on fossil fuels and will create the incentive for increasing our use/switch to renewables at a higher faster pace

Opening the Strait of Hormuz will have little immediate impact on diesel prices. It's a refinery issue and until they start coming back online we won't see prices drop.

Mr globals record has been impeccable (unfortunately). Banning export will probably result in increased prices.

I saw a Bluesky post that said the diesel export ban will be decided by whoever talks to him last, that’s why we get inconsistent information

We also have to talk about the fact that stopping exports here will skyrocket diesel in the rest of the world; which will lead to global inflation, and since we import sooooo much, it will come back to us in much higher prices on all imported goods. Anyway you look at it, we are paying.

The cartels might actually start exporting product to Mexico from the USA. It might even boost the USA's GDP 😅

let's be honest, the supply and demand curve does not look like that for diesel or most energy. it's more inelastic. and so it could actually go up even if supplying in demand doesn't change. kind of like EpiPens did

A major Libyan refinery was also closed by militants. 130k bpd gone 🙃. Also wanted to mention that an export ban would adversely affect other countries. Their prices would go up. It’s very possible they retaliate like they did with tariffs.

Much of the oil we refine isn’t drilled in the US, so would this mean we’d stop exporting diesel refined from oil sourced from countries like Canada? Or would this only apply to oil both sourced and refined in the US?

we should just nationalize the oil sector at this point, and Manhattan project wind and solar and EVs.

Come winter, I can see rural school districts going to virtual learning because they simply can’t afford to fuel the buses. My district has the second largest bussing mileage in the state and we’re scraping by as it is.

Not an industry expert but supposedly domestic refineries would use the decrease in demand as a chance to catch up on maintenance. Which would obviously decrease supply likely a similar amount and keep prices steady

I don't believe the White House formally proposed a diesel export ban. I believe it was mulled over as an option, but last week they formally rejected the policy. It would be a short-sited policy as it does not impact the refining issue.
