Steve Kimber :
He sounds convincing, but I think he’s missing why many of us came abroad in the first place.
You can work on a farm without planning to live there forever. My analogy may not be perfect, but that’s how I see life abroad: many of us came for opportunities, to work, and to build something back home. The goal was always to return one day to a place where we feel we belong and where what we build can benefit our families for generations.
Our children born abroad may choose a different path, and that’s their choice. We still have parents, siblings, cousins, and extended family back home who can benefit from what we create. For some of us, investing there is also a way to stay connected to our roots.
Living abroad has given us opportunities, but it can come with a sense of isolation and pressure to change who we are to fit in. I see it like medicine: sometimes you take it because you need it, but you don’t necessarily want to depend on it forever.
So make the most of the opportunities you came for. Build wisely, remember your roots, and if returning home is your dream, make a real plan to get there. 💯
