Why a £4,000 PC was my best investment this year 📈 Full specs, for those interested 👇🖥️ CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING B850-PLUS WIFI RAM: 64GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz CL30 GPU: 32GB GIGABYTE GEFORCE RTX 5090 WINDFORCE OC SSD: 4TB SAMSUNG 990 EVO PLUS M.2 PSU: CORSAIR 1000W RMx SERIES™ ATX 3.1 You'd think a finance content creator is proper tight, living frugally, investing all their spare money. But I spent £3,923.19 on this PC earlier this year, and I wanted to walk through why it was actually a brilliant purchase. The value argument When I bought this, it was priced below the cost of the individual components inside it, and since then those components have only gotten more expensive. Building this exact spec today would cost me around £7,200. I genuinely have no idea why it was sold below component cost, but I don't think I'll ever get this lucky again. The RTX 5090 graphics card alone is worth more than what I paid for the entire machine. Cost per use My last PC cost £1,200 back in 2016 and lasted me 10 years. When I think about the hours of gaming and work I put into that machine over a full decade, the actual cost per hour works out at pennies. That's the framework: get the right structure in place, avoid unnecessary purchases, and occasional big purchases on things you genuinely enjoy and that hold real value become completely possible. Reframing the spend Money is there to be used. Once you've got the frameworks in place and you're contributing to your future, you shouldn't feel ashamed about spending to enjoy today, within reason. Life is for living, and it's all about balance. You don't want to end up a rich retiree who did nothing they enjoyed on the way there.
