Context of what happened: The boys were out playing while mom made breakfast. She couldn’t get ahold of them via phone so they went searching and found shoes and a bike where they normally dig/play at. Officers found one boy, George, who barely had a pulse and took him to the hospital - He passed away hours after arriving. The other boy, Derrick, unfortunately was pronounced dead on scene. Later after recovering their phones they found videos showing what happened moments before they were buried in the sand. The videos showed they were digging tunnels under the sand listening to “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars without knowing the dangers to come. RIP and prayers to the families.

This one broke my heart kids being kids listening to music enjoying themselves . I can only feel for how terrified they must’ve been 💔💔 I pray the families get through this . They will never be forgotten 🥺❤️

since it happened before why is it so easy to get into? that should have been fenced off with barbed wire around it. kids are kids the world over. especially curious boys. smdh. I hope George made it unscathed. so sorry for the other boy❤️❤️❤️

Not like this, but my dad had a cousin who got swallowed in a sand pit by a wave. They were digging with wet sand and it ate them whole. He was only 8 and suffocated. Took them forever to get the body out and this was in the 70s

It is so important to always remind kids of the dangers of playing particularly when digging in sand, playing in water or climbing. Always ask and know where and what they are playing with/around. May the Lord comfort all the parents and family members having to deal with this tragedy.🙏May he bring comfort to your heavy hearts.
