Lil Wayne’s reminder to everyone who’s making music : Keep Showing up ! This footage comes from Lil Wayne’s Public Service Announcement, a nearly 30-minute video released in October 2011 on YouTube. During the video, he gives viewers a tour of his Miami home, shows his cars and talks about many different subjects, from music and creativity to his influences and his own lifestyle. But one of the most interesting moments comes when Wayne talks about his studio. For Lil Wayne, the studio is not simply a room with microphones and equipment. It is where the work happens. At one point, he makes it clear that this is what really matters to him. He also explains an important part of his routine: even though he has a studio at home, he still gets in his car and goes to another studio to work. The reason is simple. He does not want to become too comfortable. For Wayne, having a studio at home could make it easy to stay in bed, relax and tell yourself that you will work later. Instead, he treats music like a real job. He gets up, leaves his house and goes to the studio. He creates a separation between his home and his work. His home studio is there if he really needs it. But it is not an excuse to stay home every day. The message is bigger than just music. Wayne is talking about discipline. If you are a rapper, producer, singer, songwriter or any kind of creative person, having the tools is only the beginning. What really matters is showing up and doing the work. Almost fifteen years later, this part of the video still feels relevant. Technology has made it easier than ever to make music from home. A laptop, a microphone and a small room can become a complete studio. But Wayne’s point is that comfort can sometimes become a problem. Sometimes, you need to leave the house, get in the car and go to work. Because having a studio is one thing. Showing up every day is another. #lilwayne #studio #motivation #inspiration #makingof - @archives.magazine
