@madie.franklin: I just know this song is going to wreck me 🥹🥹🥹 It’s so healing when other people perfectly sum up my feelings in a song. I resonate with every word. Lately I’ve been mourning the old version of my dad. When this first happened, I was so caught up in the hospital stay, then rehab, then transitioning home, all while having hope his brain would heal. It feels like the logistics of this tragedy robbed me of the chance to fully grieve the version of my dad that he was before his brain injury. I wish I could’ve honored that dad while that memory of him was fresh and vibrant. In so many ways, my dad died that day, but I never got to grieve that death because there was a new version of him in its place. I feel like that dad is lost somewhere in between life and death. No promise that he’s in a better place, no signs from heaven, no peace that his body is restored, no closure.
