There are moments where you look at what’s happening in the world and wonder how we got here. The Lindsay Clancy case has been one of those moments for me. Three innocent children lost their lives. Her defence argued she was suffering from postpartum psychosis, while prosecutors argued her actions were intentional. Yet hundreds have publicly rallied around her, while a fundraiser supporting her has raised over $1 million. You can acknowledge the seriousness of mental illness whilst still feeling uncomfortable with how responsibility can become completely distorted. But simply complaining about the world achieves nothing. Every generation had its tests. Ours seems to be confusion. Right and wrong are constantly being renegotiated. Things previous generations recognised as destructive now require hours of debate. Spend enough time online and almost anything can eventually be justified. So instead of asking: “What is happening to the world?” Ask: “What kind of person am I becoming while the world changes around me?” Especially for the men, who are the majority of my audience, your responsibility isn’t to sit on your phone getting angry. It’s to make sure you don’t drift with it. Strengthen your relationship with Allah. Strengthen your principles. Build your character. Become someone your family can rely on. Surround yourself with men who tell you the truth, not simply what you want to hear. When everything becomes confusing, you need something inside you that doesn’t change with it. And this is exactly the kind of man we’re trying to build through BuildU. Men becoming stronger in their deen, character, discipline and responsibility, alongside other Muslim men trying to do the same. This Sunday, 20th September at 5pm UK time, I’m hosting a private online event sharing exactly what we’re building. If you’re tired of watching everything around you change and you’re ready to start changing yourself then click the link in my bio and register for the private event. The world doesn’t need more men complaining about what’s wrong. It needs good men willing to become part of what’s right.
