I really don't get how there can be a 'coal depression'??? even without coal, there are plenty of ways to get fuel. you can use drip stones to make an infinite lava source and use lava buckets to fuel, you can use kelp blocks, you can make charcoal, and you can even smelt sticks and wooden tools and leaf litter. The 'great coal depression' doesn't make sense at all 😭

Just craft campfires they give you 2 charcoal when you break them yeah only a temporary solution but trees are easier to get than coal at least for a while until you get fortune 3 or you can just turn the logs into charcoal without the campfire but i choose campfire for cooking food permanently afterwards when you go to the nether you just use soul soil for a faster roast or use lava or dried kelp blocks as fuel kelp is super easy to get.

I play Minecraft on the PS3 still and after getting coal I realized that coal is useful but not infinite charcoal on the other hand is infinite if you use Birch so now I have two large chests connected with two hoppers and both chests are completely full including the Hoppers so I have a 182 inventory slots all is a stack of charcoal now
