Wow! One Man Builds a Kitchen 💥 This was no easy task! I definitely felt a bit out of my element on this one 😄 And you'll notice that the seasons changed during the time it took to complete this kitchen.... Our Home In Stowe Here are some of the highlights I thought are worth noting if you ever plan to Build your own kitchen 1. Custom cabinetry is expensive!! I really thought I might save a little by building everything myself 😄 Maple plywood was roughly $110 a sheet and I needed close to 10 pieces to do this project 2. Custom Cabinet doors are not cheap either!! 😄 We went with White Oak for the doors and drawer faces. It cost about $1,750 for the 1 x 6 material 3. You need many more tools! As a bathroom remodeler I am more geared towards tile work. This required many new tools. Power planer, Router table, Vacuum system, Pocket hole jig, and many other misc. items 4. I'd say the biggest positive to all this work was being able to make the most use out of every aspect of the kitchen. No wood fillers to fit stock cabinets, no requirements to keep things to a standard size, and ability to change things as I go. 5. I will never get into doing kitchens for a living and working for clients 😄 I couldn't imagine trying to bill for all the time I put into to this. Its hard to calculate since I was not working on this on a consistent schedule, but I have at least 200 hours into all of this 6. Just like bathrooms, once you renovate one for yourself....you feel pride every time you use it 👍 I will most likely never build another kitchen with stock cabinetry. It will always be built custom from now on in my homes. The quality of materials is way above anything you can get at a box store If you ever plan or want to Build your own bathroom.
