Zelenskyy urged representatives of those countries to protect their citizens and prevent them from being drawn further into the conflict. His remarks included citizens from Nepal, India, Ghana, Tajikistan, Yemen, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Cuba, Belarus, Sudan and South Africa, among others. The statement was made as concerns continue over foreign nationals becoming involved in the Russia–Ukraine war. Ukraine receives major financial and military support from Europe, the US and NATO, while its own people continue to pay the highest price of this war. NATO says Ukraine is not a NATO member, but it has received extensive weapons, training and financial assistance. My question is simple: Was this the path Ukraine really wanted for its people? A country once known for peace and stability has become a battlefield between competing powers. Whatever the geopolitical arguments, ordinary Ukrainians—especially families and young people—are the ones suffering and dying. At some point, leaders must ask: Where is this war taking the country, and what will be left for the next generation?
