A storm wrecked his pilgrimage plans, and that "failure" turned a Venetian monk into the Apostle of an entire nation. He tutored a prince who became a saint. He heard a servant girl singing at a mill and honored her when nobody else would. He told kings NO to their face. And when a pagan mob threw him from a hill above the Danube, that hill took HIS name. Today it's Gellért Hill, in the middle of Budapest, with his statue holding a cross over the whole city. Almost 1,000 years later, the man they tried to erase is the one everyone remembers.
