![RING STRUCTURE OF AL-FĀTIḤAH [1:4] You’ve been reciting Al-Fātiḥah in every prayer, but have you ever noticed how beautifully it is structured around a central verse? At the very centre of the Surah is: إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ “You alone we worship, and from You alone we seek help.” This verse sits at the heart of Al-Fātiḥah, dividing the Surah into two connected parts. Everything before it builds towards the declaration of our servitude to Allah, while everything after it becomes a direct request for guidance. The structure can be seen as a series of corresponding rings: A ↔ A’ — Praise & Displeasure ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ “All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds.” ↔ غَيْرِ ٱلْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّينَ “Not of those who have earned Your displeasure, nor of those who have gone astray.” The Surah begins with the praise of Allah and ends by showing us the path we should not take. B ↔ B’ — Mercy & The Blessed ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ “The Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful.” ↔ صِرَاطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ “The path of those upon whom You have bestowed Your favour.” Allah’s mercy is connected with the path of those who received His favour.
