Why didn't we just invent ONE programming language and use it for everything? 🤔 Everything in this video is real output. I ran it all on an actual computer 👇 💾 1950s: the quadratic formula as machine code is 49 numbers. Then FORTRAN let scientists write it in ONE line, the way they'd write it on paper. 🏦 1959: COBOL was built for business records: banks, payroll, accounting. Already two languages, two completely different problems. ⚙️ 1972: C gave programmers raw control over memory… and the power to crash. Overflow an 8-byte buffer and the program jumps to address 0x4141414141414141. That's the letter

That's the letter "A", typed by the user. That's how programs get hacked. ☕ Java promised "write once, run anywhere" and cleaned up memory automatically. 🐍 Python bet on simplicity: 8 lines of Java become 1 line of Python… but on the same loop, Python took 3.886 s while C took 0.032 s. That's 121× slower. 🦀 Rust refuses to compile memory bugs at all. The program never even runs, yet it's almost as fast as C. So why not combine everything into one perfect language? Because every design choice is a trade-off: control vs safety, simplicity vs power, automatic memory vs maximum speed. You can't max both ends of the same slider. Languages didn't multiply because engineers couldn't agree on syntax. They multiplied because computing kept creating new problems 🔁 Which language did you learn first, and which one do you actually use today?
