@mothershipsg: In her judgement, Tribunal Magistrate Lee Li Choon highlighted that the woman was informed of her termination in a manner that was "both degrading and deeply insensitive" during an "exceptionally vulnerable period in her life". This, said Lee, would have caused the woman "tremendous anxiety". #mothershipnews
The current system of maternity leave doesn’t work and leaves both the manager and team mates resentful of the person leaving.

The best solution I can think of? Maternity leave is unpaid, but instead covered by the government. so the company do not suffer financial losses and don't feel compelled to find excuses to terminate the employment. they can still return employed after the leave. for those thinking where the funding will come from, please remember your ministers are paid in the millions. your ministers are supposedly the creme of the crop. if they cannot solve something so simple, they are not worth the millions they said they are worth to be.

My wife was terminated when she was 6months pregnant. Reached an agreement with employer at tadm but employer failed to pay up. Went to see MP, buf advised to engage legal ourselves , same as what mom and tadm advised. But because employer mentioned they are looking to wind up, advice was to drop the case since cant get anything back if employer does wind up, plus it will be a costly and lengthy process if anything, which I am afraid will affect my wifes wellbeing after giving birth. Almost 2yrs later today, our baby is 18months and still no update from mom or tadm or the employer. We wanted to try for at least a boy and a girl. But after this incident, my wife said no more.

How to have more children like that? Govt and MOM should look into cases like this. Not just giving fines or ask companies to give compensation less than $20k at this kind of low hiring period? $20k adult can eat 1 meal a day how about the babies? How to survive? It won’t last long. 😳🤔

$19,800 for wrongful dismissal. For a company that is nothing. Might as well no laws

If she earn more they won’t dare do such a thing (if she earns 6k a month that is a free 36k). Maybe she already got bad track record then they just want let her go anyway

It will gets even worse with the latest increase in leave to encourage more pregnancy. As far as it was good for the nation to promote more baby. It was punishing for their co-worker who need to cover her job. Every company is saving cost now and no extra headcount will be hire to temporary cover her. Sad to say that.
