If they're going to change this, they should change the word for pubes as well for clarity. That's currently "schaamhaar", or "shame hairs".

A long time ago I had fertility treatment that was supposed to maximise how many eggs developed in my ovaries. The follicles were supposed to get to a certain size to release my eggs but they didn’t, they remained small. The doctor said to me “what the hell is wrong with you?”. I didn’t answer because I felt such shame. I didn’t know what was wrong and after that first failure I never went back because of the shame. I don’t have any children and now I’m too old

You have to add the piece of context that we use ‘schaam’ as a prefix for more words relating to the genitalia, such as ‘schaamstreek’ referring to the general area of genitalia (I think for both genders) and then also ‘schaamhaar’ which means pubic hear. The name should be changed, I agree, but nuance remains important.
