HOW TO ACTUALLY USE THOSE 5 MINUTES 🎤3️⃣ FOCUS ON WHAT YOU ACTUALLY LEARNED Your SIWES defense isn't simply about proving that you were physically present at an organization. The panel wants to understand what you gained from the training. So don't only say: “I participated in antimicrobial susceptibility testing.” Add what you learned from it. For example: “I participated in antimicrobial susceptibility testing, where I learned how the zone of inhibition can be used to assess the susceptibility of microorganisms to selected antimicrobial agents.” The second version demonstrates understanding, not just attendance. A useful formula is: ACTIVITY → WHAT YOU LEARNED → WHY IT MATTERS You don't have to use this formula for every single activity, but it helps you decide what deserves space in your presentation. 4️⃣ BE SELECTIVE ABOUT YOUR MOST IMPORTANT EXPERIENCES If you were involved in 20 different activities, you don't need to discuss all 20. Choose the activities that are: ✔ Relevant to your course ✔ Significant to your training ✔ Activities you can confidently explain ✔ Activities that helped you develop practical knowledge or skills And please remember: Never put an activity in your presentation simply because it sounds impressive if you cannot explain it when questioned. Your panel may ask: “What is the principle behind that procedure?” “Why was that reagent used?” “What did you observe?” “What was your role?” “What did you learn from the procedure?” So choose your examples wisely. 5️⃣ PRACTICE YOUR TIME — DON'T JUST PRACTICE YOUR WORDS This is extremely important. Don't practice your presentation by reading your script once and saying: “I know it already.” Time yourself. If your allocated time is 5 minutes, practice until you can comfortably deliver your presentation within the required time without rushing. And don't memorize every single word like you're reciting an essay. Instead, know your: Opening → Organization → Major activities → Skills/knowledge gained → Challenges/experience → Conclusion.Practice speaking naturally from those points. That way, if you forget one sentence during the actual defense, you won't completely lose your presentation. share if this was helpful 😁#academicsuccess #nigerianstudent #student #SIWES #goviral - @bestacademichubinnigeria
