@user7522940596128: Oleshky is a city on the left bank of the Kherson region, across the Dnipro River from Kherson. Once, more than 24,000 people lived here. There were shops, schools, hospitals; people built their homes, grew vegetables, went to work, and simply lived their everyday lives. But since February 2022, Oleshky has been under Russian occupation. After the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam in June 2023, the city experienced massive flooding. Many homes and infrastructure facilities were damaged or destroyed. And now, the situation there is extremely difficult. Only a few thousand people remain in the city — according to various estimates, around 1,000–4,000. Among them are children and elderly people. Leaving the city is extremely difficult, and the roads around it are mined. People have been left without reliable electricity and gas supplies, with severe shortages of water, food, and medicine. Supplies have effectively stopped: according to reports from Ukrainian media, no food or medicine was delivered to Oleshky for a prolonged period after May 26, 2026. Because there is no gas, people are forced to cook over open fires, and because of food shortages, they have to rely on whatever they can grow themselves. Eyewitnesses report that people are saving literally every drop of water and every piece of food. The most heartbreaking part is that children are still there. People who cannot leave have essentially been cut off from normal life. Oleshky is not just a dot on a map. It is the homes of thousands of Ukrainians, their memories, families, and lives. And even now, while the city is enduring occupation, destruction, and a humanitarian crisis, we have no right to forget about it. We remember Oleshky. We remember the people who remain there.
